Brooks Winery is looking for enthusiastic, hard-working and motivated professionals to join the 2019 harvest crew. You will process around 350 tons of fruit from the estate and other vineyards in Willamette Valley & Columbia Gorge during an immersive, educational, and hands-on experience. This paid position includes on-site group housing and team lunches. Airfare is not provided.
Harvest will run roughly from Sept 15th-Nov 15th (exact dates depend on the season). A four-week commitment is required; priority will be given to candidates that commit to eight weeks. Expectations:
-Fruit sampling: learn about site and clonal selection; picking decisions
-Receiving, sorting, and processing of fruit: understand sorting for quality wine
-Fermentation management duties: punch-downs, lab analysis, and sensory evaluation during fermentation
-Cleaning and operation of winery equipment: use of pumps, press, and other crush equipment
-Barrel work: cleaning, filling, and topping barrels with wine
Ideal candidates are/possess:
-Sommeliers/wine professionals with buying ability or influence at their establishment
-Enthusiastic can-do attitude, good sense of humor, and ability to work as a team player
-Passion for wine (especially Riesling!) and desire to learn more
-Strong work ethic and attention to detail
-Fit with a strong back and ability to endure long hours of lifting and standing/walking on concrete
-Ability to work irregular shifts and overtime hours, including weekends and holidays
-Ability to effectively speak and understand English & -Strong communication skills
